Pain & Orthopedics

Neck Pain

01

Neck pain — whether from posture, tension, or old injury — responds well to acupuncture, particularly with sustained benefit over time rather than just in-the-moment relief. Treatment targets the muscles and connective tissue around the cervical spine to ease both pain intensity and stiffness.

Back Pain

02

Low back pain is one of the best-studied conditions in acupuncture research. Treatment reduces muscle tension along the spine, improves local blood flow, and calms the nerve irritation that keeps chronic back pain in a loop.

Shoulder Pain

03

Shoulder pain — from rotator cuff strain, frozen shoulder, or overuse — responds to acupuncture through improved circulation to the joint and a reduction in the muscular guarding that often makes shoulder injuries worse over time.

Migraines & Headaches

04

Migraine and tension headache prevention is one of acupuncture's most well-established uses, with research supporting it as comparable to preventive medication for some patients — without the side effects. Treatment focuses on regulating the nervous system pathways involved in headache onset, not just chasing pain after it starts.

Sciatica

05

Sciatica — pain radiating from the lower back down the leg — often stems from nerve compression or irritation. Acupuncture reduces the local inflammation contributing to nerve irritation and eases the muscular tension that frequently accompanies it.

Hip Pain

06

Hip pain, particularly from osteoarthritis or overuse, responds to acupuncture through the same anti-inflammatory and circulatory mechanisms that make it effective for other joint conditions. It's often used alongside physical therapy rather than as a stand-alone fix.

Knee Pain

07

Knee pain — especially from osteoarthritis — is one of the most heavily researched conditions in acupuncture, with clinical trials consistently showing meaningful pain relief and improved function compared to standard care.

Wrist Pain

08

Wrist pain has a wide range of causes, and the evidence for acupuncture is more mixed here than in other areas — it's worth saying so directly. For tennis-elbow-adjacent tendon issues, results are encouraging; for nerve-compression conditions like carpal tunnel, the research is still thin. I treat wrist pain based on its underlying cause rather than a single generic protocol.

Tennis Elbow

09

Tennis elbow (lateral epicondylitis) responds to acupuncture in the short term, with some techniques showing benefit that holds up over the longer term as well. It's frequently used alongside targeted strengthening work rather than in isolation.

For long-standing pain — the kind that's outlasted its original cause — acupuncture works on the way the nervous system processes and amplifies pain signals over time, not just the original site of injury. This is where some of the strongest, largest-scale research in all of acupuncture exists.
